The Laboratory of Social Analysis and Applied Social Research contributes to the development of research and educational activities linked to modern trends in the social sciences and moves along the following axes:
- Conducting basic and applied social research in relevant areas of the social sciences and humanities and meeting teaching needs related to research in the Department of Sociology.
- Creation of databases related to scientific documentation in the study of social phenomena. These databases can be used by social policy actors for the formulation of rational and socially just policies.
- Organization of scientific lectures, workshops, summer schools, seminars, conference symposia and book presentations and related scientific events related to the research objects of the Laboratory.
- Collaboration with research centers and academic institutions in the country and abroad.
Current Research Projects
- "Expertise research in support of the Social Integration Observatory of the Region of Crete" (2020-2023). Scientific Supervisor: Yiannis Zaimakis, Funding Region of Crete and the European Social Fund The Regional Observatory of Social Integration of Crete.
The concerns the creation of a network or mechanism that prioritizes the monitoring of social interventions at the regional/local level, the highlighting of local needs and challenges, the mapping of the spatial dimensions of poverty, deprivation and exclusion, the recording and monitoring of statistical data of social phenomena and the supply of the National Coordinating Mechanism (at the level of the competent Ministry of Labour, Social Security & Social Solidarity) with critical data of the Strategy of the Region of Crete
- «Actions against dangerous behaviour, delinquency and substance use by teenagers. Intervention in the individual, family, school, community». Scientific Supervisor: Funding Region of Crete. Collaboration with the Laboratory of Applied Social Research and Social Work of ELMEPA.
The project concerns prevention, information and awareness actions for the dangerous behaviors and delinquency of young people and minors in the municipalities of Gortyna, Phaistos and Anogeia with interventions in the school community, parents, students and teachers.
