Laboratory Aims
The teaching and research focus of the laboratory comprises all the areas of public policymaking, from government agenda setting to implementation and evaluation, as well as the institutional organization of the state.
The aim is to analyze public policies, with an emphasis on the phenomenon of reform, through the examination of human resources, policy processes and their institutional arrangements. The focus will be multi-level governance, the interlinkage of international and domestic levels of governance: the interaction of EU and other international institutions with the various branches of government, public administration, parliament, judicial system, and local government structures. A special field of interest will be the regulatory role of the state, in the areas of market functioning, environmental protection and public health, with an emphasis on seeking optimal re-regulation methods and the organization and functioning of Independent Regulatory Authorities.
Observatory Aims
The Observatory aims to map the public goods and services production processes, as they emerge in each policy area, as well as their impact, positive and negative, on the social, economic and natural environment.
The objective is the systematic and periodical performance evaluation of public policies through the development of a comprehensive evaluation methodology with the relevant efficiency, effectiveness, transparency and other impact indicators.
The ultimate aim is to contribute to the evidence based management in Greek public policymaking, with the creation of a base of reference so that potential changes in public policy can be decided, based on objective quantitative data, both with reference to facilitating the diagnosis and identification of policy problems and with regard to the potential effects of their alternative solutions.
